How to Secure Your Decision Telecom Account

You can protect your Decision Telecom account in two ways: by using a one-time password (OTP) or/and two-factor authentication (2FA) technology. The first option is for customers who appreciate the simplicity and speed of authorization. The second is for companies with higher security requirements. Using these methods together will provide the maximum level of protection.

What Is a One-time Password?

An ordinary password, which the user comes up with on his own, often does not justify itself. Being afraid of forgetting it, a user chooses simple combinations of symbols, which allows fraudsters to crack the code.

A one-time password (OTP) generated by the system, is an alternative. It is valid for a couple of minutes. Thus, you can use it for only one session, so you must enter it quickly.

How OTP-authorization works:

  • The user enters the website and clicks the "Authorize" button.
  • The system sends a one-time code to the specified phone number.
  • The client enters the code and gets access to his account if the password matches.
  • If the password is incorrect, the user receives a rejection.

Optionally, you can customize the allowable number of unsuccessful attempts. If all of them are unsuccessful, the ability to get OTP is blocked until the user contacts a Decision Telecom manager. After additional verification, the specialist will return the capacity to OTP authorization.

What Is 2FA?

Two-factor authentication provides better protection than OTP because it verifies the user's identity through two channels of identification:

  1. Authorization through a username and password that the account owner came up with;
  2. Confirmation of identity through a security code sent by the system to the phone.

Thus, the client's account is insured twice. For the first time - from the fact that a thief gets or picks up the password. The second time - is if the smartphone is stolen, or the hacker has access to the phone number (the weak point of OTP).

OTP and 2FA: Does Dual Security Make Sense?

Try both methods to make your Decision Telecom account as protected as possible. In this case, the admin panel will become more resistant to attacks of different types.

For example, one-time passwords can be vulnerable to hijacking in certain scenarios, while 2FA provides an additional protection level. This principle works in reverse as well.
